Music & Lyrics
I'm sure many of you have this question coming across your minds somewhere in your life "Why are oldies better than songs nowadays?"
Its not due to the fact of how long they've been around. And its not even about respect. If you're good, you're good period. Since you know its pretty much easy to carry a tune if you've got a good vocals and certain sense of rhythm [that im not so gifted with].
But what I'm trying to say here is that they add value to their songs. I'm not talking about just monetary value. Lyrical, poetic, human values. They teach us how to be human. I'm not trying to say songs nowadays don't. I'm saying they do not focus on that anymore.
Almost all the time i turn on the radio and what i hear is a juvenile wide eye baby-faced heart throb fusion of the Backstreet boys and Usher singing "....baby baby baby baby ooooh". Otherwise a creation of the multinational record company's product of selling a innocent looking hot chick which just turned 18 singing songs about going to clubs and having boys chasing after her and so she and her girlfriends are going around the malls shopping for new clothes and talking about cute guys.
What I look up to is the older generation of mine cos they've lived the hype of that era and seeing many of them holding firmly to the music of their generation. What i look down on is the generation right after me who are so deeply deprived of good music. Having to grow up on lyrics which want to tell them how to live their live, whats good for them, otherwise make them feel bad about themselves cos they will never ever live the dreams of whats told in the songs.
And as for myself I'm glad i'm born just in between. i got to choose my side. and obviously you know which side im on, period. PLUS the fact is that I do not readily accept whatever that's given to me, i choose what i want. You should too. Don't let the radios decide for you what you wanna hear.
On the other hand, what I'm even more ashamed [a better word would be disappointed] of is the Asian flock. I am Asian myself, we are the MAJORITY. Why do we let the supposedly "minorities" rule over us? why should we let them decide what should be POP and whats not? And why should we make them look POP when we have that deciding vote on who should be? You know what's worse than a {"juvenile wide eye baby-faced heart throb fusion of the Backstreet boys and Usher singing "....baby baby baby baby ooooh"}?
THAT IS TO MULTIPLY THAT BY 5 OR EVEN 13 [im not naming groups but i guess you're smart enough to guess] Imagine 5-13 of that singing and dancing together? Isn't that like the scene in toy story 2 where buzzlightyear goes into the toyshop and sees many other buzzlightyears, and nobody knows who's the real buzzlightyear, Except us the audiences who already know there isn't any real or fake cos they were carbon copies of one another and they have no value as to who they are. The only value they are good for is the value of which their fans hold true to them. [in the case of toy story, that's the buzz that belongs to Andy].
Well for that kind of value, I'm not interested. I'm neither fans to any of those. Music must be much more than this. Although i'm not talented in this area, im talented in listening and knowing what's good for me.
Excuse me, i don't know what i'm talking about here. In the midst of this inner debate between myself, i'm already tired and i don't really want to go on and talk about pros and cons. There really isn't any either anyways cos i got myself covered. I'm just sharing some views, some thought, some things that I like here, not gonna share about things i don't.
